On September 25, CFCC organized an event with the theme “Leadership & Work Culture Across Borders: Finland Meets Canada.” In today’s interconnected world, leadership styles and workplace cultures often determine how effectively organizations adapt, innovate, and thrive. This event brought together Finnish executives and Canadian professionals to explore how leadership philosophies, cultural values, and organizational practices align—and where they diverge—between the two countries.
The event featured a panel discussion that illuminated different perspectives on leadership, workplace trust, and employee well-being. It was a highly insightful evening that explored critical aspects of cross-cultural leadership, highlighting how Finland’s emphasis on flat hierarchies and autonomy contrasts with Canada’s more structured approaches, and how both systems offer valuable lessons. We were fortunate to have a distinguished panel of experts whose diverse experiences enriched the conversation and provided meaningful perspectives on building bridges across borders.
The vibrant discussion highlighted several key themes. Firstly, the importance of trust-based leadership and empowering employees through autonomy was emphasized as a driver of innovation. Secondly, the role of work–life balance was examined, with Finland’s systemic supports offering inspiration for more flexible and sustainable workplaces. Lastly, communication and feedback styles were contrasted, underlining the need for cultural awareness when collaborating internationally.
The audience remained highly engaged throughout the event, actively participating in the Q&A and contributing their own reflections. The networking session that followed was particularly dynamic, allowing participants to continue the discussion, strengthen professional ties, and explore future collaborations between Finnish and Canadian leaders.
