On June 5, 2025, the Canada Finland Chamber of Commerce community came together for an inspiring evening at the offices of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in downtown Toronto. The event served as both our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and our annual celebration of Finnish-Canadian entrepreneurship.
Annual General Meeting Highlights
The AGM opened with key governance matters and leadership updates. Highlights from the agenda included:
- Confirmation of By-law Amendments: Members approved updates to the CFCC General By-law as adopted by the Board on September 16, 2024. A Special Resolution confirmed the revision of section related to number of Directors: “The number of Directors shall ideally be eleven (11), but may be a minimum of nine (9) and a maximum of thirteen (13).”
- President’s Report: An overview of the Chamber’s progress, impact, and vision for the coming year.
- Election of Directors: The Nominating Committee presented its recommendations, followed by the introduction of the newly elected board members.
Remarks by Ambassador Hanna-Leena Korteniemi
We were honoured to welcome Ambassador Hanna-Leena Korteniemi, who delivered her first public address to the CFCC community since assuming her post. Her thoughtful remarks reinforced the importance of community, diplomacy, and collaboration between Finland and Canada.
Entrepreneur of the Year 2025
This year’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award was proudly presented to Dr. Heikki Ylanko, a long-standing and dedicated family physician in the Greater Toronto Area. Dr. Ylanko’s commitment to community health, integrity in practice, and decades of service make him a shining example of Finnish-Canadian contribution and entrepreneurship.
New Business Members Welcomed
We also had the pleasure of welcoming several new CFCC business members. Each shared a few words about their business journey – and it was genuinely heartwarming to hear how their involvement in CFCC has already helped spark meaningful connections and growth.
A Taste of Finland and Lively Networking
The evening wrapped up with vibrant conversation, drinks, and hors d’oeuvres. Guests were treated to a unique Finnish touch: wine from Noita Winery, enjoyed alongside excellent company and a panoramic view of the city.
